Christmas Shoebox Appeal
Following the great success of last year’s Christmas Shoebox appeal, we are once again calling on the families of Carrdus to gift wrap their kindness and give generously to this year’s Teams 4U appeal. Each shoebox will bring a little joy to a vulnerable child or family in Eastern Europe.
We were kindly joined by Mary Jones of T4U, who showed us the different types of gifts to include in our shoeboxes, depending on whether we choose to give to a boy or to a girl. More information about how to donate and ideas for what to include in a shoebox can be found on the website www.teams4u.com
Mary also showed us a short film of the shoeboxes being distributed last Christmas; seeing the sheer happiness on the faces of the children who received them was a deeply inspiring sight.
Of equal importance are the conversations to be held about why? Why would we send a shoebox of gifts to a friend we have never met before? Why is it so vital to be able to stand in someone else’s shoes? Why is empathy such a crucial step on the Carrdus Pathway, as it leads us to the world beyond?
If we teach our children to understand the value of empathy, it will grow with them into adulthood where they will be able to use it as a tool to make a real difference.
“People say it’s just a shoebox, but it isn’t - it tells a child that someone, somewhere cares about them.” Dave Cooke, founder of the charity Teams 4U.
Our target this year is to send 100 Christmas shoeboxes. Let’s do something amazing!
