Inspection 2019: Excellent academic achievement and personal development
“Throughout the school, a palpable sense of enjoyment and togetherness pervades everything that pupils do.”
In May 2019, a team of ISI inspectors undertook a thorough and rigorous inspection of Carrdus School. Their findings over a 3-day visit, determined the outcome of two headline judgements; pupils’ academic achievement and their personal development.
Carrdus received the highest possible judgement of ‘Excellent’ in both these areas and were found to be fully compliant with all ISI regulations.
During their time in school, inspectors observed lessons, interviewed children, examined samples of work, toured the school, held discussions with staff and governors and attended assemblies and clubs. They examined assessment data, including academic standards and progress, as well as the school’s policies and procedures. They also analysed questionnaire responses from parents, staff and children. In other words, every fibre that makes up the fabric of the school was subject to comprehensive scrutiny.
Speaking about the quality of academic and other achievements, the report states “Pupils’ academic achievements are excellent resulting from their extremely positive attitudes to learning and strong support and feedback from teachers. Throughout the school, pupils acquire and demonstrate high levels of knowledge, understanding and skills across a wide range of subjects.”
On the quality of personal development, the inspectors found that “Pupils demonstrate excellent levels of self-knowledge, self-esteem, self-confidence and resilience, main elements of the Carrdus Pathway, the holistic approach to personal development for which the school aims.”
